During the financial shocks of the 1970’s,&nbsp; the Ardenne forest came back to life. The local population began to return, taking up their traditional rights as loggers and guardians of the trees.&nbsp;The rejuvenation of logging enabled the local population to make some savings, but above all it led to the rehabilitation of certain forms of social behavior. The working of the land combines work with pleasure. The locals work together with friends and family, with picnics around the camp-fire, and meetings in the local departément huts. The headquarters of the large companies define the two main Champagne towns of Épernay and Reims. Household names such as Moët &amp; Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, Dom Perignon and Bollinger have their grand buildings along boulevards with names such as Avenue de Champagne.Supporting this grandeur however, is a whole region of agriculture. The central hills of the Champagne region are full of vines. These are managed by a legion of farm workers; watering, trimming and caring for the precious fruit.
