Champagne, and the champagne region is associated with success and glamour. The headquarters of the large companies define the two main Champagne towns of Épernay and Reims. Household names such as Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, Dom Perignon and Bollinger have their grand buildings along boulevards with names such as Avenue de Champagne.

Supporting this grandeur however, is a whole region of agriculture. The central hills of the Champagne region are full of vines. These are managed by a legion of farm workers; watering, trimming and caring for the precious fruit. It is this much more modest enterprise that my images focus upon.
